This Privacy Policy applies to the Captionify mobile application (referred to as the "App"), owned and operated by Whisperer World ("we", "us", or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have complete control over your media and personal data.

        Privacy at a Glance: We do not store, sell, or share your personal videos or audio recordings. Video processing, subtitle rendering, and draft storage happen 100% locally on your device. Only extracted audio snippets are ephemerally processed for AI speech-to-text transcription.
    

1. Information We Access and Process

Audio & Voice Recordings: When you request auto-captioning or record voice-overs, the App extracts the audio stream from your selected video or device microphone. This audio is temporarily transmitted over an encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connection to secure speech-to-text AI providers (such as Groq, Deepgram, and Cloudflare AI) solely to generate word-level timestamps and subtitle text.
On-Device Video Files & Media: We request storage / media read and write permissions solely to let you choose videos from your device gallery and save exported captioned videos. Your source videos are never uploaded to any remote server.
On-Device Translations: Language translation is performed locally on your device using Google ML Kit on-device translation models, ensuring translation text remains private.
Local Project Drafts & Preferences: Your recent subtitle edits, text styles, and app settings (such as theme and preferred transcription limits) are stored locally on your device using an encrypted local database (Hive). This data never leaves your device.
Crash Reporting & Diagnostics: We use Firebase Crashlytics to automatically gather anonymized crash logs, operating system versions, and performance diagnostics to fix bugs. No personally identifiable information (PII) or user media is included in diagnostic logs.

2. How We Use Your Data

We process your data strictly to provide core application features:

To transcribe speech to text and synchronize word timestamps with your video.
To render, burn-in, and style subtitles onto your video locally on your device.
To record and synchronize voice-over audio with video playback.
To detect app crashes and maintain app stability.

3. Data Retention and Ephemeral Processing

Zero Remote Media Retention: Audio sent to third-party transcription APIs is processed ephemerally in real-time. Once the transcript is generated and returned to your phone, the audio is immediately discarded.
No AI Model Training: Your voice recordings and video audio are never used to train, retrain, or improve public or private AI models.
Local Project Data: Project drafts saved on your device remain there until you manually delete them inside the app or clear the app's local storage.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

To deliver automated transcription and diagnostics, we integrate with trusted third-party providers bound by strict confidentiality and data protection standards:

AI Speech-to-Text Providers: Groq Inc., Deepgram Inc., and Cloudflare Inc. (ephemeral audio-to-text inference).
Google ML Kit: On-device language identification and offline translation.
Google Firebase Crashlytics: Anonymized diagnostic crash reports.

5. User Data Rights & Data Deletion

Because Captionify does not require account creation and does not store personal media on remote servers, you have complete ownership and control over your data:

Deleting Local Drafts: You can delete any saved project draft directly from the home screen project list.
Complete Data Erasure: Uninstalling the application or clearing the App Storage in your Android settings will immediately and permanently erase all saved local projects, downloaded offline language models, and preferences.

6. Permissions Used

RECORD_AUDIO: Required only when you use the in-app microphone to record custom voice-overs.
READ_MEDIA_VIDEO / READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: Used solely to select video files from your device gallery.
INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Required to communicate with transcription APIs and check for model updates.

7. Children’s Privacy

Captionify is not directed toward children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect app updates or regulatory changes. Any modifications will be posted to this page with an updated effective date.
